COMET Competence Centers
COMET competence centers are research and transfer facilities within a specific economic sector in which companies and scientific institutions work together. The focus is on basic research as well as industrial research and experimental developments. The competence centers are funded by the COMET program.
acib GmbH - Austrian Centre of Industrial Biotechnology
acib focuses its research on three areas of expertise (Biotransformations, Microbial Systems Biotechnology, Biopharmaceutical Technology) in order to specifically enable new scientific advances and industrial developments far beyond the current state of the art.
Next generation bioproduction is associated with a major paradigm shift, namely the application of synthetic biotechnology in conjunction with diverse technical disciplines and modularization as well as digitization concepts in all phases of bioprocess design and development. The research serves urgent needs of the biotechnology industry in terms of its future growth and sustainable development in tomorrow's markets. Flexible process technology - with higher performance as well as economic profitability - enables more reliable and predictable process development and implementation, and shorter time-to-market. The significant trend towards a closer exchange relationship between customers and bioproduction, as it is emerging in the coming fourth industrial revolution, is promoted in this way.
acib combines excellent research with a tailored training and career program for young scientists. The new center thus acts as an important training ground for future workers in the field of industrial biotechnology.

Know Center Ltd.
The Know-Center is one of the leading European research centers for Data-driven Business and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Since 2001, well-known companies have been supported in using data as a success factor for their business. As an integral part of the European research landscape, the center very successfully handles numerous projects and contract research at EU and national level. The K1 Competence Center, which is funded under COMET, is also the leading training center for data scientists in Austria and offers a range of al training and consulting services for companies. In 2020, the Know Center was the only Austrian center to receive the iSpace Gold Award from the Big Data Value Association in the "European Innovation Space" category, which has only been awarded nine times in the entire EU.
