ANTHROPIC is launching a $5 mio grant program to fund independent research into how AI impacts users’ wellbeing. The program will provide direct funding, access to the companies models, and technical support to grantees building open-source evaluations that help the AI industry measure how our models affect those who use them. Grantees will work fully independently, and will publish their work as open-source projects that any developer can make use of.  The project budget can range from $500,000 to $1.5 mio. At the first application stage, only a preliminary proposal is required.

EIC - Pathfinder-Projekte mit Technologie-Reifegrad (Technology Readiness Level, TRL) 1 bis 4 zielen auf visionäre, radikal neue Technologien ab. Diese gehen aus kooperativen Forschungen an Hochrisikoprojekten und langfristigen Visionen hervor. Die Förderung umfasst alle Phasen von der Idee bis hin zum Proof-of-Concept und zur Validierung. Mit dem Förderprogramm Data:Research:Austria fördert die Österreichische Akademie der Wissenschaften (ÖAW) Forschungsvorhaben im Bereich der Register-/Mikrodatenforschung, bei denen existierende Daten zur grundlegenden Erforschung von gesellschaftlichen Themen und Fragestellungen herangezogen werden. Das Förderprogramm richtet sich an Forscher:innen aller Disziplinen in Österreich, die empirisch-quantitative Anwendungen und Fragestellungen im Bereich der sozialwissen­schaftlichen Forschung erschließen. Projekte können individuell und in Gruppen von bis zu drei Forscher:innen aus unter­schiedlichen Disziplinen beantragt werden. Am 23. Sept und am 24. Sept werden Webinare zur Ausschreibung angeboten.

Die europäische Partnerschaft Water4All bereitet einen neuen transnationalen Förderaufruf zum Thema “Sustainable Water Management” vor. Der Fokus der BiodivFuture-Ausschreibung liegt auf dem Verstehen von neuartigen Ökosystemen, deren Evolution und damit verbundenen sozio-ökologischen Dynamiken. Within the framework of the Climate and Energy Fund, the Austrian Climate Research Programme (ACRP) provides a conceptual and institutional basis for supporting climate research in Austria. The ACRP focuses on oriented basic research on climate change and climate actions, adaptation, mitigation and their mutual interrelation. The “Italian Bilateral Scientific Cooperation Award” is to recognize the work of an Italian scientist who has remarkably contributed to the advancement of science and technology (S&T) while performing his/her research abroad, thus improving Italy’s S&T relations with foreign countries and International Organizations. The L’innovazione che parla italiano (Innovation That Speaks Italian) Award recognizes the high innovative value of technology startups operating abroad and founded by Italian citizens. Die Deutsche Gesellschaft für Tourismuswirtschaft (DGT) schreibt den DGT-ITB Wissenschaftspreis aus. CERIC-ERIC has launched a new Call for Proposals, offering researchers from around the world access to more than 60 state-of-the-art research facilities across 11 European countries in the fields of materials science, biomaterials and nanotechnology. Through a single-entry application process, researchers can submit proposals for single- or multi-technique experiments using complementary facilities. Access is provided free of charge for selected projects, subject to CERIC's Scientific Data Policy.

The Institute for Human Sciences (IWM Vienna), has established a mentoring initiative for applicants for European Research Council (ERC) Starting and Consolidator Grants in the humanities and social sciences from Central, Eastern, and South-Eastern Europe. This mentoring initiative is addressed in particular to researchers in the areas of history, anthropology, political science, sociology, science, and technology studies, as well as cultural and literary studies aiming to submit in 2028 – 2029. Internationally established scholars, who have served as members of ERC evaluation panels, or who have held ERC grants themselves will act as mentors during a workshop. Die Wirtschaftskammer (WKO) Steiermark vergibt auch im Studienjahr 2026/2027 wieder 22 Stipendien à EUR 2.500 für wirtschaftsnahe Master- bzw. Diplomarbeiten. Die Master- bzw. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship Programme (MSCFP) seeks to inspire and support young women to pursue a career in the nuclear field.  Named after pioneer physicist and twice Nobel Prize laureate Marie Skłodowska-Curie, the Programme aims to inspire and encourage young women to pursue a career in the nuclear field, by providing highly motivated female students with scholarships for master’s programmes. Additionally, a limited number of internship placements will be available through a competitive process.

Women of any nationality pursuing a Ph.D./doctoral degree who demonstrate a superior academic record conducting research applied to aerospace engineering or space sciences are eligible. Post-doctoral research programs are not eligible for the Fellowship. It is imperative that students be registered in a full-time Ph.D./doctoral program and have completed at least one year of that program or have received a master’s degree in an aerospace-applied field at the time the application is submitted. In 2025 a young researcher from our university has won one of those prestigious fellowships.

Grants (either for (Pre)Doctoral or Post-Doctoral Research and Lecturing) can be awarded to candidates from any of the 27 EU member states for a period up to one academic year (9 months) and are open to all academic fields, however, the topic of research must have a strong EU component. Awards are available to conduct research, or lecture on a topic that is relevant to US-EU relations, EU affairs/policy, or EU institutions and shows relevancy to at least two EU member states. The application period to apply for this grants is between Sept 15 and Dec 01 for applicants who intend to start their program in the next academic year.

The SASTE grant supports high potentials from Sub Sahara Africa working in the field of Water Management, Renewable Energies, Nutritional Science, Human and Veterinary Medicine for a research stay in Austria. In case of strong involvement of Technical Sciences and IT in research projects of the mentioned fields, these areas of research are also eligible for application. The successful applicant is embedded in a long-term research setting at a Sub-Saharan African university or research institution. The research at an Austrian university or research institution should provide additional qualifications that have a stimulating effect on the ongoing research projects.

The Branco Weiss Fellowship offers an opportunity for postdocs from all disciplines who have conceived an original and independent research idea that falls outside the scope of large-scale research projects. At the time of the submission deadline, applicants must hold a doctorate (PhD) or must have successfully passed their doctoral examination. Applicants must have obtained their doctorate (PhD) a maximum of five years before the submission deadline The fellowship gives an unusual degree of freedom: Fellows are encouraged to choose the best possible location for their research, anywhere in the world.
